Franklin Square is one of Philadelphia’s five original squares. The centerpiece is a fountain built in 1838 and fully restored in 2006. There's a carousel, mini golf and playground to entertain the young and the young at heart.

We went during the Chinese lantern festival (during the day) which was pretty cool but the park itself was a let down. The kids rode the carousel (like any other carousel you've ever been on for $3 a kid). We skipped the mini golf. The...More

We went on a beautiful sunny Friday before it was extended another week. Lanterns take on a completely better look after sunset. Very beautiful. There are dance/gymnast/music performances but none with the long dragon lanterns--all were on a small stage. In this day & age...More

If my kids were younger, they would have loved this place. We enjoyed walking around and seeing all the youngster having a wonderful time. Swings, fountain, carousel, and more. If you have kids elementary age or younger, you'll want to visit Franklin square.

Of course the lanterns are not really the same in daylight, but the figures are quite imaginative and certainly fun for kids to see - think of Pokémon figures enlarged 10-100 times, not on a TV screen, and you can imagine the effect on the...More

We happened to be in Philly when the Chinese Lantern Festival was in town. There were a lot of interesting and pretty displays. Not sure how nice the park is when the festival isn't in town.

Arrived shortly before dark, viewed several lantern displays all very nice. There was food and drinks available but was full from dinner so didn't partake. Also square haze a carousel and mini golf for family entertainment. Festival worth seeing

GO if you can. By your tickets ahead of time online and if you PRINT THEM OUT ON PAPER then you won't have to stand in line. Electronic tickets still had a huge line thought it did move fast. Worth it to see for fun...More

We really enjoyed the display at the Chinese lantern festival. The event is well organized and interesting. It's a great way to spend an evening if you are in the Philly area. The variety of displays was really nice.

what is the closest train stop? I'd be coming from Bucks County, trying to decide if we should drive or could take a train in.

Get off at Jefferson Station by train. You can walk or catch a cab/uber to Franklin Square. Enjoy! Best place to take kids in the city. Plus, the food is incredible.

I did not see any shuttles coming and going. But there are plenty of Uber drivers in Philly; one is always close by.
