The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

Gettysburg is an iconic name that conjures up images of duty, sacrifice and courage. Visiting was a moving experience. Seeing the locations that we had only read about was really something. The battlefield site is well laid out and clearly sign posted. It is a great day of bringing history to life.

It was a beautiful day when we visited. We went on a Monday and it was not crowded at all. We did the visitor center and museum first so that when we did the driving tour we could picture how it was. They are re doing some of the landscapes in places but the rest of the park is beautiful... More

I have been to this place at least if not more than thirty times over the years. Every time I go I still learn something new. It is a place for reflection but also a fantastic place to visit if you like history. If you have never been, on your first trip hire a park ranger to drive your car... More

This area is a sobering, interesting place to visit. So much history. So many stories. The preservation they have accomplished here is amazing as well. You can relive the battle. Reflect on the outcomes. Learn from the sacrifices of so many others.

We were very impressed with the scale and scope of Gettysburg. Please allow more than 3 hours just for the auto tour. We were glad that we had read up on the battle before we visited. There is so much to take in and the views our incredible. The park is well set up to handle the many visitors and... More

A great place to catch up to what was seriously a very significant place of American History. It is amazing that so much happened in such a reasonably limited area of fields.

GNMP is a must see if you enjoy history. Battlefield tour guides, self guided tours via CD in your car or even just venture it on your own, are all ways to see the battlefield. The serenity of looking over major areas on the field, picturing what actually happened over 150 years ago, is imaginable. We go to Gettysburg at... More

This is the place where the war came to the make or breaking point for the United States and Confederate States. You will learn about the split second decisions that not only saved the day, but saved a nation. The park rangers do a great job. You need to see the movie and the Cyclorama, but then take a tour... We only saw a small portion of the park, but it is very moving. Parking was easy, and there are good views to be had of the battlefield.
