We visited 4 churches on the Eastern church tour. All were hospitals in the Civil War. All were staffed by church volunteers. Some were in costume as people from the CW and some gave contemporary talks. The tour was 2 hours long and excellent. It cost $5 per person. Here's an interesting fact I learned: pews held three layers of... More

A nice local experience, we visited four churches. The stories become repetitive in that all of the the churches were used as hospitals during the battle. The reenactments were fine, though more history of the buildings and congregations would have been appreciated.

We wanted to find a church near the Gettysburg Hotel since we were there on Sunday morning. I found this one just a couple blocks away. Known as "Church of the Presidents" since Ike and Nixon were both members and Lincoln actually visited there once. In addition to the history, the members were very welcoming and we loved the contemporary... More

This is a WONDERFUL tour that I would highly recommend. We did the west side churches this year and can't wait to do the east side next summer. VERY informative and educationally...all the participants at each church were wonderful!

So glad that this candlelight church concert fit into our schedule. It lasted almost exactly 1 hour. The program was very informative and the singing enjoyable. They even had refreshments outside afterwards. It reminded me of the Bruton Parish Church concerts in Williamsburg, Virginia.

We go to the church tour every year. Excellent way to get historical information on the town and the way each church was used as a hospital. Informative, interesting sight-seeing walk. Even if you are not a regular church-goer, tour is historic and very interesting. Not something you will experience if you only visit the battlefield Visitor's Center.

Interesting alternative to the mass of ghost tours. Presentations are made by members of each church so the quality can vary wildly, but all were of historical relavance and very much more substance than the ghost tours.

We enjoyed all of the tours we have taken in Gettysburg. The historic church tour was however by far the most enjoyable! The volunteers providing the tour were very knowledgeable & passionate about the local history.

An inexpensive tour, only offered on Wednesday evenings. It is done by volunteers. Our leader was also a Licensed Battlefield Guide, so he was quite knowledgeable. You walk to four churches and at each church parishoners take over and tell you the history of their church's involvement in and after the battle of Gettysburg. It was very well done and... More

This was such a lovely experience our first evening in Gettysburg. I had run across the website for Historic Church Tours and thought it sounded interesting. The walking tours are in the evening (only on Wednesdays) and are about a half mile in distance. Each of their two tours covers 4 different churches that were significant in some way during... More
