In addition to museum exhibits, the cyclorama presentation has to be seen to be believed! The cyclorama is a huge painting, oil on canvas, that represents the battle as viewed from an overlook. It is a 360º panorama with some 3-dimensional work along the bottom to give it the full effect of being there.

The Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center is absolutely amazing...and this coming from a person that barely made it out of history class way back when in high school. We arrived about 1pm on a quiet Thursday in November...2 days before Remembrance Day. It was quite by accident, but our arrival was perfect timing. There was a buzz in the community-but... More

Traveled many battlefields in my day but this is the best. The museum and Visitors center is incredible and provides something for everyone from the novice to the expert. But plan to spend 3 to 4 hours as there is a lot to see.

You will want to make sure to see the historical Cyclorama Gettysburg painting when visiting the Gettysburg Visitor Centre. This is a 360 degree cylindrical installation and painting portraying Picket's Charge from the position behind the front line on Cemetery Ridge. It is one of four such works by French artist Paul Dominique Philippoteaux (1883) and is 13 metres high... More

When visiting, a must see is the CYCLORAMA. This fully restored piece of art was the perfect opening to our day. We continued to the Eisenhower house and finished by going through the center - an experience worth having! The museum section is awe-inspiring, making any attendee an instant (if only momentary) history buff. We were lucky enough to also... More

Went on Veteran's Day, so felt like remembering the sacrifices the young soldiers made. Residents and veterans got in free/normally 12$. We watched a 20 min.film on the Civil War narrated by Morgan Freeman in the new visitors center theater. Nicely done, but the Cyclorama ( huge circular oil painting done in the 1880s by a French artist on sailcloth)... More

The re-constructed Visitor's Center has a first class collection of antiquities, as well as the mind-blowing Cyclorama that has been restored. The movie and gift center are highlights!

A large Visitor Center with nice amenities makes for a good starting place for one's battlefield tour. Make time to see the movie and cyclorama along with the museum section - they are worth the time and are all well done. One can also arrange for several types of battlefield tours at the membership desk. Pleasant, helpful Park Rangers and... More

Should be added to everyone's bucket list! An eye opening experience worth every penny. Recommend taking a guided tour of the battlefield to get a detailed account of the largest battle fought on American soil. Plan on spending at least one full day.

This is one of the Park Service's very best museums and visitor centers, significantly better than they were several years ago when we took our kids here. The Park Service does an absolutely superb job and we are very grateful for their efforts.
