Great place to adventure around and explore lots of geographic things to do this is a lava flow the volcano and vents, there are even lava tubes to explore

The drive alone is stunning, but there's more than that. Some great hiking. Walk along an incredible lava flow, see a natural arch (La Ventana) and some amazing sandstone.

Views of El Malpais lava flows surround the area. I found the South Narrows Picnic Sites along Hwy. 117 to be clean and well maintained.

This is a large area and correctly called El Malpais as this means Badlands in Spanish. The whole area has scattered basalt rock that goes back 100,000 plus years and well worth a visit.
