I was on a geology tour with a group of teachers last summer. We were like kids...we didn't want to leave. Luck was with me because I found 3 beautiful specimens- 2 different, perfectly preserved leaves (one of which was the now extinct Beech) and...More

We stopped here because our kids visited with the Florida Atlantic University Geology Dept. It is located right outside of the National Monument, small sign so you have to really look for it. We went 2 days and really got the fever for looking for...More

You get to look for fossils. We found leaves, a spider and the grandkids were enthralled. If you are looking for something to keep the grandkids busy this is the place.

We love Geology and Archeology, and here we can see what our world looked like thousands of years ago. Great hiking trails with lots of wildflowers and occasional Black Bear, lots of deer and some times a fox.

Our Colorado vacation was last minute, so we were incredibly excited that Dixie could open the quarry during the time we were there! Although the weather in October is quite unpredictable, our 'dig' day was absolutely beautiful! Once given instruction, we gathered shale pieces and...More
