We were impressed by how well-preserved some of these buildings are. It was interesting to see the kinds of furnishings that were in use back then, as well as the equipment in the hospital. Life here was not easy. It was also interesting to hear...More

If you want to learn more about forts in west Texas, this is a must see. Nice furnished buildings with lots of period items of the soldiers and their lives. Great for families too.

I must confess this is our second visit. The site has made improvements since our last visit. I am happy to see our tax dollars put to good use! The Commissary had a fun game for kids (and teens and the young at heart) making...More

This is an excellent way to spend a historical couple of hours. Very interesting and very well preserved, and a great way to learn about life in the area during the last half of the 1800's...

Lots and lots of interesting history here. A little museum of sorts, remnants of old structures and some really cool hiking trails back up behind the fort grounds.

There isn't actually a fort there but there was a fort in the past. It's just a great place to visit in the mountains. There have the bugle call and barracks to look at. It's $7 per person. There is plenty of parking.

We did not do the tour of the Fort this time, but it is very interesting also. We did the Hospital Canyon Trail hike and the North Ridge hike which were both good.

Fort Davis is between the McDonald Observatory and Marfa. I can only imagine how rough it must of been for those staying there back in the day. It's settled in the mountains and the scenery was amazing.
