I had imagined this to be a fort (like a big English castle maybe) but is was more wide open. And our tour guide explained that it had originated more of trading post. Nevertheless, it was a splendid experience to actually walk round the famous...More

We decided to catch this site while we were sort of nearby. It is free and certainly worth a stop. The site has an 18 minute film which gives the history of the site plus a gift shop. While the visitor center closes a little...More

We stopped here while on a bus tour. I didn't know what to expect; but was very pleased. The movie in the welcome center provided valuable info about the fort and what we would be seeing there. The restored buildings with authentic furnishings were fascinating...More

My husband and I went in early June on our way to Mount Rushmore. I am glad we decided too, the buildings were well preserved and the history is fascinating. We plan to go again with our kids!

The audio tour is a mere three dollars a piece but well worth it. There is a lot of walking involved. It is easy walking but it does cover a lot of ground. So glad that it was preserved for future generations. Easy to imagine...More
