I've visited AVAM three times now and every time is an exceptional experience. Each year a new theme is explored and exhibited along with their own collection of art by unusual artists. This year the theme was food and the part if plays in individual love/hate relationships, in our country's well being, environmental state, commercial endeavors and ethics and cultural... More

My wife and I spent 2 exhilarating hrs here while visiting Baltimore. It's a different type of museum: it features the work of artists who come by their artistic approach not by study, but in some other roundabout way - a life calamity (one of the artists featured started working after a terrible beating/mugging, another after having a hand cut... Outsider art in a harbourside building. Buzzing with creativity and very idiosyncratic, in a good way. Fun exhibit about food. Lots of self taught artists.

I love this museum! So quirky and always thought provoking. We go every time we are in Baltimore. A little expensive but I am willing to support unusual and non-mainstream art like this. Parking can be a challenge. Drive round the neighborhood and prepare to walk a bit!

This museum is fun! It's a nice change from the Smithsonian Museums in DC. This museum is a showcase for artists from different backgrounds and with amazing stories!

This is a museum of works by untrained artists, some of whom were street artists, some of whom suffer/suffered from mental illness or who just experience the world differently than man of us. The art work is amazing. The stories of the artists next to each work are incredibly moving. The museum also has one of the greatest gift shops... More

You must visit this place in Baltimore if you have grown weary of art mausoleums speaking only to the elite. I love a yearly visit to MoMA, BMA, the Met, Philly Art Museum. But let's face it: those places speak a language you need to know. Those places are about the titans who have been recognized, whose output has commodified,... More

So much to see and do here. Fun for all ages. Bring your cameras!! Not far from the harbor. If you are driving down Key Highway you can't miss it.

This is one of the most fascinating art museums I have visited (including the Louvre in Paris). The variety of weird and wonderful art kept me there much longer than I had planned. No Picasso, Matisse or Van Gogh but a collection of amusing, beautiful, crazy and funny art. A must visit in Baltimore
