Built on the historic site of the first African-American shipyard. In a series of restored warehouses, this is a great museum with a great message - both diversity and preserving the maritime environment.

Our Washington, DC History & Culture Meetup group visited this off-the-beaten-path museum that is fun on many levels. My nieces wedding was held at the museum this past weekend. A very unique and beautiful place for a wedding! The view was awesome, the building it's self was fabulous. My only complaint was the air-conditioning, it was not evenly distributed. The main room was extremely warm, yet the other rooms up stairs were nicely cooled?

We were met by an enthusiastic tour guide who clearly loves her job and we saw others during our stay. The museum is carefully put... More
