The Fort was constructed in 1808 and was used to guard Savannah during the War of 1812. After the fall of Fort Pulaski during the Civil War, this small Fort was the soul protected of Savannah from the Union troops. Enjoy the history lessons from...More

We were visiting Savannah with friends and ended up at Old Fort Jackson because Tybee Island was overun with teenagers on Spring Break. We had a chance to hear 2 different cannon firings - something we had never witnessed at other historical forts. Several guides...More

Old Fort Jackson was a really interesting visit. I would highly recommend going for the daily cannon firing. We went for the first one at 11, there was another at 2. The highlight was the informative and engaging presentation that gave lots of information about...More

Enjoyed this short stop recently while in the Savannah area. Although small and it doesn't take long to see it all, it was worth going out of the way for, and the low cost to visit it.

Went to see it while I was in Savannah as I am a history enthusiast. The fort is well kept with civil war reenactors assisting you in your learning experience. Definitely worth the stop.

We really enjoyed the old fort. It was very interesting to note that so much of the storage of supplies and munitions were stored in the outside walls.

The guides were dressed in uniform and they taught you about everything in the fort. They taught you how to prepare and load a cannon and they even shot one out at the bay and one at a passing ship! We got there a little...More

Not very big, but well worth the time. Plan your trip to be there for their daily cannon firing. The historical interpreters do a good job of getting the guests involved in the history of the fort.

The young man in uniform who did the flag demonstration, two different canon firings, and told the history of the fort was very knowledgeable and charismatic. He took us back in time and made the experience very interesting and enjoyable. I wish I knew his...More

It’s fairly close to the historic section of Savannah. It’s probably a 10-15 minute drive, mostly along the same road. Signage could be a bit better so keep your eyes out. Once you turn left off the main road, the fort is... More

Cannon firing presentations include a history of the site and its significance. When kids visit, we try to make our programming as interactive as possible, including mock drill and marching.
