Overview
More
Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

Stay in The park’s camper cabin. Kids fall in love with their sleeping loft. Heaven for birders, fiddler crabs are cool. Lots of ranger guided programs, including canoeing in the salt marsh. Had to bring our own linens, towels, dishes and cooking utensils. There is...More

WE absolutely loved camping here. Check in was great, and huge wonderful camp sites! They even let you choose your own site. They tell you what is available and you can drive to look at the site and park if you like the site. Saw...More

This is a magical park, arriving through an long archway of live oak trees draped in Spanish Moss. The walks are enjoyable but we did not see much, if any, wildlife unfortunately. The RV park is well laid out and each site has plenty of...More

We have a large motorhome and we could have parked two in this drive through site. It even had a sand patio that had been ranked (reminded me of sand art). No problem getting in or out of the site and it is on a...More

My wife and I decided to drive down to Skidaway Island and visit the state park to see a different side of Savannah, well away from the tourists. The trail we took was well marked, but did get a bit muddy at times due to...More

I must admit that August in Skidaway is HOT and muggy, but although the campground was almost empty it was lovely: plenty of shade, over 30 feet between most campsites and clean bathrooms. We were 40 minutes from the beach at Tybee, less to downtown...More

Most of these trails take about an hour each, making for a light and flat hike. Wear proper footwear, bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray, and you will be fine. I went on the Avian Way and Sandpiper Nature Trail, which get you closest...More

My wife and I visited Skidaway Island during our honeymoon in Savannah. We walked about three miles of trails and we found the park to be very beautiful. The area is a great deal different that the out door areas where we live (Tennessee). It...More

Beautiful state park close to Savannah. It was an easy drive in and out to Savannah everyday and other local attractions. One thing that was disappointing is that there are no close by beaches accessible by car. The drive to Tybee island took us almost...More
