Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

We detoured off of I-95 to explore someplace off the path. Found a trail pretty quickly, but the bugs drove us away. Left after about 20 minutes! This was late May - maybe a winter visit would be better?

Had a great chat with Ranger Vicky. She gave me some good tips (Sorry, Vicky, I'll have to go to Wormsloe next time!), and enthusiastic about her profession.

We visited the state park to get out in nature and see another side of Savannah. The Interactive Center was awesome, with live animals, specimens, a bird watching station and replica of giant sloth skeleton. There are several hiking trails and camping areas.

We were vacationing at Hilton Head in our RV and decided to go to Savannah for the day. We met a couple that had stayed at Skidaway Island. So we decided to just do a drive through. It was nice. Wooded and plenty of privacy....More

Stayed 3 days at Skidaway State Park. Beautiful park with lots of room between campsites. Trails are easy with Oak trees and Spanish moss. Close to historic district in Savannah. Will come back for sure.

We spent three hours here and went on two trails. Super chill place and very pretty. It was perfect for an easy afternoon.

I'm sorry, I don't know. It was just a place for us to camp in order to see the city.
