The SCAD Museum of Art was founded in 2002 as part of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The museum's collection of more than 4,500 pieces includes works of haute couture, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, prints and more. The SCAD Museum of Art is a teaching museum, serving Savannah College of Art and Design students and as well as members of the community and other visitors. A focal point is the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies, a multidisciplinary center for the study, understanding and appreciation of African American culture, art and literature. It is complemented by the André Leon Talley Gallery, named for the Vogue contributing editor and SCAD Board of Trustees member. The museum also features a 250-seat theater, a terrace and outdoor projection screen, a conservation studio, a museum café, as well as a 12-foot-long orientation touch table. An 86-foot tall steel and glass lantern welcomes visitors and elegantly redefines the Savannah city skyline.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Jacob Lawrence exhibit today. Very helpful SCAD student docents on hand to explain, guide, and enthuse visitors with their excitement.

I didn't go on the museum tour. I was interested in the gift shop. Love finding gifts in Museums. Worked for me, but if you like museums this will probably satisfy you.

We happened to have a prospective student with us and decided to tour the campus one-hour before the scheduled tour - no problem getting in. The bus tour was free and took us all over the city. SCAD was immensely impressive as an academic establishment....More

One of the neglected Savannah historical buildings refurbished by SCAD for art space and classrooms. Outstanding facility with interesting rotating exhibits.

Not your usual exhibits. Something for everyone, and a range of prices. The greeting cards and posters were unique.

I agree that this is a good art museum for families-not just galleries of paintings. That said, some twelve year old boys might not find this as interesting as other outdoor activities in the area.
