A great view of history

The guides are very well informed and the Elwood house has a lot of interesting features to take in. It's a bit out of the way and very quiet, which makes it a nice place to see.

A little out of town but it can be part of a circle of civil war battlefields and historic sites. The building where Stonewall died is still there with some of the furniture still in the room. Building not always opened but you can peek in through the windows.

I was visiting with friends in the area. We went to Fredericksburg on a day trip. It is a nice place to stroll around. Since we were so close, we had to take a side trip to see Stonewall's arm. His was an interesting story. The grounds are beautiful with gardens and a grand Virginia mansion. The rangers were very... More

Once Stonewall Jackson's arm was amputated it was supposedly buried at this location out of respect for the great man.

I have been wanting to visit this site for many years. The first time we tried the gate was closed. It wasn't until we read about the site that we found out the grounds can be accessed if you are willing to walk. The site is located in the cemetery straight down the path, down the steps and up the... More

I stopped there out of curiosity one time and a friendly park ranger explained the story about how Stonewall Jackson's arm was buried there after it was amputated. I was quite amused by this. Virginia takes it's Civil War history very seriously!

The final resting place of Stonewall Jackson's arm is part of a National Park Service property which includes Ellwood Manor, a plantation dating to the late 18th Century with links to the Battle of the Wilderness and Battle of Chancellorsville. By all means tour the house before exploring the rest of the property. The grave is a short walk from... More
