Old Town in Fredericksburg is just like you'd want an Old Town to be - lots of historic brick houses converted into all sorts of interesting shops. Some historic sites are mixed in too, like the old Apothecary Shop, where you can fraternize with some genuine live leaches they keep with their old medicinal specialties. There are neat restaurants, or... More

We visited the Manor with our 8 and 9 year olds. We enjoyed the informational film before we toured the property. The property is small so it didn't take much time to tour it but it is rich with history. Would recommend to anyone looking to tour a quick, free historical landmark.

Great place always worth the stop. Great gardens when in bloom. Wonderful view of the city. Historically significant. See civil war pontoon bridge, cannon and ridge the Federals shelled from. Don't miss Americas Throne where the likes of Washington, Monroe Madison and other founding fathers sat.

To understand the battle of Fredericksburg this is a must stop. It is free and has a short movie that is good. Great views of the river and Fredericksburg below. Some awesome gardens all around.

Chatham Manor is the second stop on the 6 stop auto tour of the Fredericksburg Battlefield but deserving of a special visit on its own, which I did over the course of appx. 2 hours. Now a thirty acre site run by the National Park Service, it was once a 1,300 acre estate, home to wealthy gentry and as many... More

We were on a civil war touring vacation and this was our first stop in Fredericksburg. It's definitely worth stopping and touring the house and the grounds. I agree with previous reviewers that the short film is well worth the time. The Park Ranger was very helpful with providing additional information on the house as well as how it was... More

This site is right across the river from downtown Fredericksburg. Plenty of parking, free admission. A lot of history to learn about. Too bad there are only a couple of rooms on the first floor of this large Manor that you can visit. Nevertheless, well worth the visit. Plan on about an hour or so. Run very nicely by the... More

Beautiful plantation built in 1771 by the Fitzhughs who lived a lavish lifestyle here. The current owners in 1862, the Lacys, had to flee as the house was turned into Union headquarters as well as a hospital. Destruction followed, and the Lacys had to sell in 1872. After several owners, it was sold to the National Park Service in 1975.... More
