Riverboat is popular if kitschy tourist attraction. Distance is limited since sand bars have blocked entry to larger Tanana River. On-board food is OK but not up to standards of many Fairbanks restaurants. But if you don't have a boat and/or don't want to paddle a rental canoe, you can enjoy the float.

We went on the riverboat discovery with my parents who came for a visit last summer and it was a great experience. We had so much fun and it's totally worth it.

We lived in Fairbanks for 5 years & every time we had visitors in the summer I brought them here! I probably have done this 4-5 times - and loved it every time! It's a great sample of interior Alaska - very different from the inside passage that the cruise ships show you. They start with unlimited donuts when you... More

This was part of our Celebrity Cruse package and I"m glad it was. To get on board One has to go, of course, through a huge gift shop which turned out to be a fun experience in itself. The cruise is narrated as you sail so you always know what you are looking at. At a couple of stops the... More

It was sometime ago that my husband and I went on this river cruise during one of our visits to Alaska from the UK but felt I wanted to comment after finding this on trip Advisor. It was a very enjoyable cruise, great commentary from the "Captain" and plenty to see along the river banks. The boat is large so... More

We had excellent tour of the chena river on the riverboat. Had a decent meal at the wharf then boarded the boat. It's touristy but fun. Saw some sled dogs in action from the deck and visited replica of a Native village. It was a fun afternoon and the weather. Operated with temperatures in the high 70s F.

While on a Grey Line Tour of Inland Alaska our last several nights were spent in Fairbanks. We were booked on the Riverboat Discovery Excursion... This tour was so well organized and added another plus in our books for this particular trip. The Paddle Wheeler was bigger than we thought it took a huge number of people- I think it... More

Very nice half-day trip down the Chena river. The river boat is big and carries a lot of people, but this trip is organized very well so you do not miss anything. They have several "shows" during the trip - hydroplane take off and landing, dog kennels of four-time Iditarod champion Susan Butcher, Athabascan Indian Village. We enjoyed that trip... More

We really enjoyed this riverboat tour. We got to see a seaplane fly over and land, sled dogs, and a recreation of a native village, among other things. It was really a nice way to spend half a day.
