If you're interested in Brooklyn's history, this is the place. The building itself is a beautifully designed building. Unfortunately we did not have the chance to go in.

this is the place to go and look, read and study. It was founded in 1863, it is a museum, a historical library, and educational center whose mail purpose is preserving and encouraging the study of Brooklyn's 400-year history. The society's home a Romanesque Revival...More

Lovely landmark with some very good expos on the history of Brooklyn. It has a great library and is a great resource for researchers. Good book store. Very nice and helpful staff. A gem.

Stumbled in by accident just to escape a sudden downpour. Stayed 3 hours, immersed in fantastic historical exhibits that are superbly curated (some interactive enough to be of interest to young teens). History of Dodger baseball, local women activists, slave times in Brooklyn, Truman Capote,...More

Wonderful little history gem. Free, but donations are happily accepted. Lower level includes interesting string driven history timelines about Brooklyn, and the slave, free-man influence over the early settlement years. Upstairs has an interesting Jackie Robinson exhibit. Woodwork and rooms are great examples of old...More

Very interesting learning on the history of the area, and in particular of the plea of the black inhabitants even after the abolition, so to speak, of slavery. We came nevertheless for a very interesting little market with 45 local artisans. Priceless.

Beautiful building inside and out. There are various interesting exhibits spread across three floors and a small library. When I visited, there was an exhibit on Brooklyn's humble beginnings and its history of slavery, stories on the sewers of the borough and the challenges of...More

Gave another perspective to the history of Brooklyn - in all my visits to New York had always focussed on Manhattan and never found time for Brooklyn; this changed all my thoughts of its history and gave me another understanding of its background and importance,...More
