We spent the morning with Wild Alaska Charters crossing Icy Strait. Jan knew right where to find whales and was very careful not to disturb them while maximizing our experience. He cut off the engine so we could enjoy the silence and hear the whales blow. He clearly is expert in natural history and in managing his boat. We always... More

My wife and I and one other person spent most of the day following a few whales. Our guide, Jan, explained that the herring were over fished and the whales were not forming pods and were leaving as they looked for food. This was confirmed when we did the Glacier Bay trip the next day. It is a shame that... More

There were 6 in our group, and we all agree: Jan is the best. He is very respectful about the animals and their habitat. He is very informative about the animals. And he has led a fascinating life. We saw whales, seals, river otters, sea lions, and sea birds. He taught us all about kelp, the Alaska culture, animals and... More

Jan took us out on his boat to common whale spots and we saw a total of 7 whales, many were near the shore and very close to us and we sat and watched for a really good amount of time. He also took us to a reefy/rocky area as it was low tide, where sea otters and seal cubs... More

Jon and his wife did everything to make this trip accessible and wonderful for our party of 6, including one member who had limited mobility. Jon took us out where we saw whales around the boat along with lots of sea lions in a kelp bed. We enjoyed learning all about Jon's adventures and we all agreed that he is... More

Jan gave us the trip of a lifetime with several humpback sightings as well as up-close views of large groups of sea otters and sea lions. He pointed out interesting wildlife all along the half-day trip, while skillfully piloting his boat and taking care not to disturb the wildlife we viewed. Highly recommend this attraction for people who want a... More

Went whale watching with Wild Alaska Charters twice. Not only did we see humpback whales but we got to listen to them (via underwater microphone) - it was magical. Really appreciated Jan's handling of his boat and respect for the whales. If you are looking for an intimate whale watching experience with very few passengers, Wild Alaska Charters is for... More

We can highly recommend Wild Alaska for a very personal whale watching experience. Janish was very respectful of the whales and handled his boat skilfully and we got some amazing views and photos of the whales. Just being out in the ocean and hearing the breathing of so many whales was amazing in itself. If you want to be with... More
