The View from the Karla Caves is nice. The main highlight was the climb onto the Ekvira Temple which was a bit stressful for city folks like me who lack fitness. It is a 15-20 min climb from the parking lot. For Senior Citizens, we were lucky to find a "Palki" which is not known to everyone. They bargain to around 2500 to-fro journey. Overall a nice experience. The line on Saturdays is a bit long. We reached around 4 PM. It is advisable to start in the morning to avoid rush and heat.

Lonavala is about an hours drive from Mumbai and a visit to this temple is a must to marvel at the dedication and hard work of the people living several centuries ago. This is truly a magnificent contruction in solid granite, and a pius dedication to the Gods of the time.

Ekveera Devi temple is located at Karle at distance of 6 km from Lonavala. The temple is located in a hill. One can reach the temple either by car or by public vehicle (bus, rikshaw). The temple is very much popular among the koli people - a fishermen cast in Maharashtra. Reaching the temple involves an enjoyable trek of about 30 min.
The temple is located right in front of the caves popularly known as Karle caves. Karle caves are about 2000 year old and house one of the oldest and well preserved wooden Chaityagriha (Conference Hall).

On the way to Lonavala, you come across this holy temple situated at on a hill. Buses halt at the foot and its fun to walk towards the temple. Ekvira Devi is considered to be the deity of fisherman community who are present all over Mumbai, Thane, Raigad area.

This Place in nearby Lonavala, incase you are traveling from Lonavala Side then you need to pass Toll Naka, then from MTDC turn left.
Road up to foot hill very very narrow and is OK, however driving uphill is quite thrilling due steep Ghat (few) and vehicle coming from up hill. Limited Parking facility is available at Uphill.
Yu will have option to leave your vehicle is foot hill parking and take either Taxi or can walk over satire (this is better option)
From up-hill parking you need to use satire to go main temple, It will pass through temple at starting of Satire.

The temple is peaceful and the location is serene. The temple has big faith among locals and is located at hill top. It is worth the effort going to the temple. Maintenance of temple need to be improved as it is difficult to handle big crowd at the temple.

Why do we link all places to temples and force people to remove shoe etc. Long Q with no reasons. Crowed having no interest in rock art are flocking there and disturbing.

No Rope way, you can drive up to middle of hill., park the car and then to staircase, foods and refreshment you have options available on the way from small shops, better to have in Lonavala highway, 15-20 minutes away from here.

Would like to ask the trustees of the Ekvira temple why there is no upkeep of the area around the great temple.
The plateau on top of the hill (around the temple) can be beautified by some landscaping and greenery. Sitting arrangement must be made for elderly pilgrims. There is garbage all around the temple and the hill sides. The restroom facilities are unavailable or pathetic. The steps can be levelled for easier access. Cable cars can be introduced for a price for people who need it.
The parking space at the bottom is insufficient and not planned. Cars jam the entire approach road which is so narrow and has cars parked on it making it impossible to navigate. The climb to the parking bay is narrow and dangerous without any railings. Have seen cars that have gone downhill due to slight miss. Accidents are common on the climb.
Given that the temple is the Kuldevi of so many communities - Ckp, Koli etc why is it in such a sorry and sad state? It can be made a great tourist place if things are improved. The forest dept collects rs 30 for each car. What is this for ? What is the forest dept doing for the upkeep of the temple? Would like to know. Please take this matter up seriously and urgently.
Thank u
