The statue is a 130 feet sculpture of a tamil poet named thiruvullavar. it is situated close to the vivekananda rock memorial and the ferry service which goes to the rock memorial also makes a stop here.

Not very old this statue withstood the tsunami waves too. Boat ride is the highlight and it would take about 30 minutes to visit excluding the boat ride.

This is adjacent to rock memorial. To reach here you have to catch boat from Vivekananda rock memorial. Boating ticket purchased for memorial is valid for this journey. This is tall statue can be called as India's statue of liberty. Better views are from rock memorial. You cannot see complete statue if you go near to it. For return journey... More

If you are Tamil and know a lot about the poet visit here. The canteen is crowed. It quite difficult to mange kinds in the scorching sun. We found is difficult to grab a seat in the ferry back to shore

The humongous statue dedicated to the poet is excellent and reminded me of lady Liberty in NYC. The statue stands 120+ mtrs high and is made of stone.
