Very beautiful. I heard about this place with the many themed rooms and had to see it. A co-worker from the Center Point hospital said she worked there during holiday season. Simply put, Beautiful.

This spooky looking mansion is full of interesting architectural features and the guided tour gives a comprehensive history of both the family that built it and the special features that make it unique. $6 for entry and tour; $5 for seniors.

Beautifully decorated house and Don gave a very extensive tour. Even played the organ for us. Recommend to all that like victorian homes.

Very casual tour of home while being told of the unique family that occupied it and what became of it in the next century. I attended during the free museum day but it is very reasonable price and only lasted 50 minutes or so. Gift...More

As many times as I’ve driven by, I never stopped and did the tour. It was well worth a couple bucks. The guy leading the tour had been an ambulance driver in the area back in the 1960s. He had some very unique stories to...More

Years ago, I visited and purchased my mom (maiden name 'Vaile') a lifetime membership to the Mansion's Historic Society. Since that time, I've served as a diplomat in numerous European cities, marrying a Viennese Austrian and have finally returned today. As a lifetime Austrian, my...More

Every room was packed with Victorian furniture and stuff. Tubs were lined with copper. This house has had many uses over the years. Glad it is a museum now. Wish we lived closer so we could see it at Christmas.

Some interesting local history in this home. The architecture and decor has European influence which includes (at the time) a scandalous mural above the master bed and some interesting faces embedded in the wood in the upstairs front room. All the furniture is not original...More

Thank God that the last owner and the City of Independence had the foresight to save this home from progress. The structure had a hard life, a school, mental institution and then a nursing home. The last owner gave the home to the City of...More

A beautiful 1880's mansion in Independence, Mo. Enjoyed seeing this slice of history and the stories behind the original owners/builder. For the history buff it's a wonderful sight to see and learn about. Hard to believe a mansion of that era still exists today.

Guests visiting the Vaile mansion have access to the 1st and 2nd floor. Due to fire code restrictions the third floor and up are off limits, because there is only one way up and one way down. Very unsafe if there was ever... More
