Take a walk around Independence like the late great Harry S. Truman did everyday while he lived there. Great food, great people!

The Independence Square offers a lot of different shops and businesses to pick from. There's quite a few restaurants around the square and a movie theater. Most of the time I take my wife and we go to the movie theater as it's kind of out of the way from the big AMC Style theaters and I enjoy the little... More

I was able to walk around the square early while waiting for the Truman Visitor center to open. As it was winter hours some of the sites in the area were not open. Lots of little shops to browse through.

This is a quaint little spot in Independence. Known for the "Square" so make sure you go and visit. Cafes are good and so are the shops :) Enjoy!

Gilbert Whitney is actually my favorite store on the Independence Square. Lots of little knickknacks and home goods that are unique and it's a great shopping for presents. There are a few items here that I've never seen before, so it's the kind of store you have to wander through and see what they have to offer. They also have... More

If you visit the Independence Square in late spring through summer on Saturday's, you can visit the mid-1800's. There are free basic rides and paid for tour rides on wagons available as well as characters in 1800's clothing walking about the square. Learn about the beginning of Independence, before Truman - where the westward expansion started. There's more to Independence.

This is such a cute little downtown area. I love the store called Be Here Now. We also ate at Café Verona, which was delicious and went to the movies. Can't wait to go back and visit the other stores and restaurants!

If you are going to or through Kansas City you need to stop at Independence Mo. and visit President Harry S. Truman"s home town. There is a lot of interesting history to see fun for the whole family. And it's not far off the main highway I-70.
