About
Tegalalang Rice Terrace comprises a series of cascading rice fields. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the area is especially popular during sunrise and sunset. Take your time to explore the terraces, visit the nearby Bali Pulina plantation, and have a go on the mountain-edge swings. To see the fields at their greenest, visit in March, August or September. They're also green in December and February but are slippery due to the rainy season. The rice terrace is commonly visited on a tour of Ubud which includes other places of interest like the Monkey Forest, Tegenugan Waterfall, and Tirta Empul Temple. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful views even after rain
Extremely beautiful even after a light rain. Slightly muddy but still able to mitigate. It is very humid and sweaty so prepare towel & water if you intend to climb to the other side. I took a leap of faith & tried the swing! I did not regret it at all.

    Great for your instagram photos
This is a great place to visit to see the rice terrace. We hired a driver for the day and this was about a 2.5 hr drive. There is a cost to enter, I can’t remember how much but no more than 75k. There are many swings zip line you can go on at a cost for those looking to add to their instagram collection. It worth a visit and although a bit touristy done let that put you off.

Still awesome between 7 and 8 am
The place has changed so much over the yEArs and restaurants, cafes are all along the road leading to the terraces. Hundreds of tourists if not thoudands are coming everyday. Everything feel so commercial and there is even an entrance fee now. However, if you get there at 7am, you will get one hour of calm in what is still an exceptional place before the madness starts.

    Nice but very touristy!
Worth a visit but be prepared for the over-touristy sections. A lot of people are there just for the swings and Instagram photos which does get as bit annoying when they take over the paths. If you want a more authentic experience i would recommend finding another rice terrace to visit

One of the best places to visit in Ubud
The views and sheer size of the rice paddies were breathtaking. It was amazing to see how rice, such a global staple food, is made. They don't offer guides to educate you on this process but typically your driver can share a good amount of knowledge. They offer swing photos here - both single swing and couple swings are available - IDR200 for a single swing or IDR400 for a couple swing. Dresses are also available to rent at IDR100. If you do want a swing photo, recommend doing it here rather than the Aloha Swing. The views are so much more beautiful here and the service/safety is better too.

    Lush greens
There is an entry ticket of 25000 ibr and one has to be ready to climb mighty steps to get at bottom and brave ones continue to other end of rice terraces for more views an a cafe. This place should be good early morning or post lunch with minimal sun as otherwise heat makes climb more dexterous. There are shops for water and refreshments and swing / photo spots which charges 50-100k idr for photo ops.

    Scenic rice terrace
The rice terrace is really scenic, verdant and a pleasant place to spend about an hour. I've heard that this place can get quite busy so we explored it at around 9am one day and pretty much had it to ourselves. I can imagine that the steps (both down and up the hill) may not be easy for everyone so comfortable footwear is advised. There probably isn't that much to do here, except for taking in the beautiful views and snapping some pics

    Tegalalang Trekking
We went to the Tegalalang Rice Paddies on a Monday, we were charged an entrance fee of 25,000 IDR each which allowed us to explore all paddies. We did the trekking and enjoyed it. It was quite adventurous and not always well marked. Only a couple of intersection were marked, the path wasn’t always that obvious and it was definitely not clear of obstacles. Given they’re charging you an entrance fee for it, I’d at least expect the pathway to be cleared.

    Beautiful place, worth checking out
Our entry was 50,000 each and upon entering the view is breathtaking. It really is something special which I think deserves to be seen. The main terrace is littered with swings and people taking photos which is fine. We ventured down into the rice terrace and wandered up to the top of the opposite side. We sat and enjoyed a coconut for 30,000 and explored a bit more and found the entrance to the adjacent coffee plantation. It was lovely wandering around but we really just enjoyed sitting and taking in the view. The same could have been done for price of a coffee from one of the nearby coffee shops which look over the terrace. We didn’t encounter any workers wanting donations. We came across one checkpoint which was a donation bucket and we were happy to leave a small donation here. Overall, a nice place, probably worth paying entry to be able to walk around and have a look the first time but in future I might just buy a coffee and sit at the top and take it all in.

    Beautiful scenic place- must see
This place is absolutely stunning. They offer zip lining, swing photos, and other photographic opportunities. You can also walk through the rice terrace and it is really fun and pleasing to the eye. They have couple of restaurants on site. When you buy for swing photo, make sure you specify that it is the big swing that actually swings. The photos you get here will be absolutely stunning. Majority of people I saw coming here had full make up and unique dresses. The reason for that is that they are looking to take their photos on the swing. If it is raining, do not buy the ticket as you will not be able to walk the place. I highly recommend this place. It is worth the cost.

Only worth it if you want the staged photos, you can make only one prearranged rice stop, or you want to hit Bali Pulina plantation, really. As you approach you already get the touts trying to wave you in to their (pay) parking. Keep going till you see an open spot. Your next battle is the guys trying to charge entrance fee. Pick the entrance you can battle into or one with a cafe and argue that you're going to get something in there. It's a small amount but it's a scam 🙄. If you don't want to do the photos or swing, i think there's only one more "donation" spot for "other farmers property" and he's fine if you just put like 2k in. We stopped for a drink at the ladies' cafe on the opposite side and they let us use the toilet for free since we bought something. The steps aren't really all that breathtaking or exciting, in MY opinion, unless you don't have time to see any other rice fields... There are at least 2 you can walk to in downtown Ubud.

Nice trek and wonderful views. Beautiful pictures. I advise to go early in the morning to better deal with the hot clima and enjoy it peacefully without too many visitors. It is not a difficult trek but you should use appropriate shoes. Easy to flip in the mud... i just lost my sun glasses there. There are some beautiful terraces where you can enjoy the views. There's also entertainment with some swings in some terraces - not my thing!, i would prefer it without it.

This is an easy trail to walk and scenic as well

Advisable to go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the glaring sun. It gets really hot by late morning or noon

There are 2 points of entry. Either way works

Not a loop

So one needs to walk back to where the car is parked

Quite a few cafe at the end of the walk, incase need a refreshment or hungry

Majestic views - and a adventerous ”theme park feel” to the whole place. A bit over the top touristy with people trying to sell you things all over - and you have to pay a bit more for donations than what you thought. But it offers some nice surprise aswell - animals and local farming people’s everyday work.

The first stop that you should make is at Tegalalang Rice Terraces. Most of the local Balinese people makes a living as a farmer, specializing as a rice farmer. Hence, there are many rice terraces in Bali. In Ubud, the most photogenic one is Tegalalang Rice Terraces. The entrance fee is Rp 15,000 IDR per person. Tegalalang rice terraces during sunrise brighten the surroundings and crank up the photo’s saturation

There was a charge of $20000 Rupiah (less than $2 USD) per person. You can walk around the rice terraces to the bottom of the valley but to go up the other side will cost you another $20000 Rupiah because it is owned by a different family. I suggest just staying on the one side because its the same view of the valley. You can ride a swing ($100000 Rupiah per person) or just look around and then do some shopping if you desire.

One of those rare places that lives up to the hype, notwithstanding the rampant, overdevelopment right across the top of the ridge behind them which, fortunately, doesn’t spoil your view.
The drive up here is deeply depressing - a narrow road crammed with brief glimpses of the terraces between endless shabby buildings clinging to every possible spot straining for a view.
But, once you’ve parked, paid the fee and walked in, all is forgotten.
Everywhere you look the terraces are superb, with near perfect, unobstructed views from every angle. There’s no one place to look, and there’s multiple paths and levels, so even on a busy day, you can still get that perfect shot, though you will have to queue to use the Instagram specific tourist spots
If you pay extra you can take a flying fox, or even ride a bike across the valley, or be snapped on one of the many swings.
You can walk down to the bottom and up the other side (but it’s not worth it as the views are all one way).

I’d recommend coming here as part of your Bali experience, do keep in mind this is catered for tourism so expect a lot of tourists to be floating about in amongst some locals.

Price of entry is Rp. 10,000 per person, there are also a lot of other activities to partake in, such as going across the zip line which is Rp. 350,000 per person (only one at a time can go) which is quite steep however if you love a thrill, you won’t be left disappointed, there are also options for the tandem bike, swing and a single bike zip line option too.

The location and area is beautiful too, although after the other activities I did find myself to be a bit bored as there’s only so much arrangement of perfectly coordinated rice I could take, maybe not for me but other travellers may take a liking to it.

You can spend a lot of time walking or you can just find a bench and sit and gaze at the natural beauty! I was also surprised by how much there is to do there. There are two swings (one for two people, the other solo), zip line, and riding a bike along a wire. I didn’t do those because I’m afraid of heights, but if you are into that sort of thing, go for it! There’s also a little restaurant we’re you can have drinks while viewing the rice terraces.
