When we visited the lake, the area was going though a dry spell. Water levels were low and you could see the dry beds in some areas. Even though there was a little rain, it was not enough to fill up the lake. Having said that, the lake and the places around it is beautiful. A serene walk around the... More

The lake is named after Mr.William Gregory in the Hill city of beautiful Nuwaraelia, Sri Lanka. It was & is still beautiful but now has dumps outside & appears partially polluted. Still is worth the visit when you visit that area as you can see from my pictures.

We recently revisited this lovely spot which did seem to have been cleaned a little since 2016, but there is still work to be done clearing the water of plastic bottles in particular. Pleased to see that work is now well advanced so that we will be able to walk all the way round the lake by next year.

Lake Gregory is a reservoir in heart of hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. The area was originally a swampy bog at the foot of the small hills that border the town. In 1873 Sir William Gregory authorised the damming of the Thalagala stream, which originates from Mount Pidurutalagala, in order to make more land available for the expansion of... More

Didn't enjoy our trip to the lake, very dirty and polluted area. Dump sites are close by and affect the smell around. Lots of horses to ride if you're interested.

Our guide was very keen to show us the lake. Coming from Chicago (and Lake Michigan), Lake Gregory is really just a pond with a few pedaling gondolas, and real ponies to ride, for entertainment.

Gregory lake and surrounding park is not being managed properly, the governance body could have done more to attract locals and foreigners, earlier there were cycling track and cycles were on rent, which is currently not available. Further there is a small lake with loads of fish near the park, which is also not maintained properly.

I took a 15-minute's tuk tuk ride from Nanuoya train station (Rs500). The lake required an entrance fee of Rs200. It was particularly suitable for family with kids since there were boat ride and horse-riding. Worths to do picnicking along the lake when it is a sunny day, with a view of those beautiful British-style houses at the hillside.
