We spent a morning at James Madison Park which is right on the lake. There were picnic tables and benches. There was not much shade but it was still cool out. Located close to downtown.

We have boated on this lake dozens of times and we hear it's great fishing as well. We please boat with family and friends and it's an incredible way to spend a summer day.

Went kayaking on the lake with my girlfriend starting at Brittingham. It's a great lake, small waves, good view, very large. It's a good way to find quiet right next to the city. Very nice for kayaking.

Lake Mendota is a fair size lake, but not so large that one can not see the entire shoreline. One can walk from Lake Mendota to Lake Monona in less than 1/2 hr.

Living in southern Wisconsin most of my childhood, we were always told not to swim in lakes around Madison. There is algae all around and when close, you can see the waters filth. The only thing that is giving this review the three stars it...More

During the clear days, one can watch the sailboats, and then stay for the sunsets, which are spectacular.

Peaceful, fun, calming... Lake Mendota is MADISON! No one should ever come to Madison and not see Lake Mendota. What's not to love?!?!

The best place to be dropped off would be the Memorial Union on the UW campus which is under major renovation but I believe they still rent boats and paddle boards there but you may have to be a student or faculty member. A... More
