I mistakenly said that the State Capitol was a great place to picnic but you cannot picnic in the building itself. However the Capitol Square grounds are beautiful and a great place to have a picnic for one or for ten!

The square meshes nicely with he sprawling complexes of the University of Wisconsin. It is a nice leisurely walk. Funny thing is is that between Minnesota which charges you for everything and eventually air, the university and the capital. I am not suprised that Minnesota has not started charging for air yet, but give the DFL time to figure out... More

The Wisconsin State Capital sits high on a hill between Lakes Mendota and Monona. There is alot of history on Capital Square. There has been alot of development around Capital Square that has limited the views of the lake.

We spent the day at the capitol square on Earth Day. It was busy with people and parades going on. The weather was very nice and so were the colors of the green grass and blue sky.

Capitol Square is a great area. Great place to take a walk, take in the sights and find a place to eat. Of course, it's only better on Saturdays when then the Farmers' Market takes place.

The capitol building is grand, definitely a must visit while in Madison. Visit on a Saturday if you can so you get a taste of the excellent farmer's market at the square. There are also several excellent restaurants nearby.

Very cute and cozy Capitol downtown area. Easy to park and walk around the area, lakes and University. You can tour in about 2-3hrs.

focal place to bring out of town guests, capitol itself is beautiful inside and out. walk in by yourself to take a look at the beautiful dome and seasonal features (holiday/xmas tree, protest/activist posters, etc). The lit up capitol/capitol square at night is beautiful. many events in the warmer months, farmers market on saturday mornings, food festivals with live music... More

As usual my go to place around the square since I live close by . Friends are amazed at the variety of shops and restaurants as well as the beauty of our Capitol - a replica of D.C. ! Love downtown Madison 💜
