Seriously, the items are awesome. But the price is for the 1% of the world. No knock what so ever! Just being realistic. The items are so cool and fun to see. Worth a stop

We visited this antique store because it was just down the street from our hotel (Hotel Monteleone) and it featured a Napoleon exhibit on the second floor. Admission to the exhibit was free. The exhibit was very nice and quite large. There were paintings, furniture, and the "Description de l'Egypte, First Edition". The exhibit was from November 5th-January 7th. We wandered... More

Fun to wander thru the place and dream. Beautiful things but pricey. I really like the burl and tiger eye maple pieces.

I went there twice and I enjoyed the collection with equal enthusiasm both times. They have a varied gallery of European, American and African artifacts that really take you back to an era where aesthetics were appreciated. I took my mother on the second visit and asked hesitantly to see the secret room. A young salesman showed us the whole... More

M.S. Rau Antiques is a gallery and showcase like no other! I mean it. This is probably one of the classiest, most eclectic, and astounding stores in any city in America. Idle curiosity drew us into this shop on Royal. Inside we found elegant furniture and antique art. But the real surprise was the jewelry and the museum-like displays of settings and rooms. We were amused by the 22-piece Meissen Monkey band. We asked ourselves who would buy such a thing, but we were fascinated nonetheless....

Just go in. You'll be amazed. Every piece you look at in M.S. Rau has a story and the collection is massive. Take your time here and look around. The jewelry, art, clocks, musical instruments, weapons, fossils... even the canes are remarkable.

As we were walking down Royal street, one of the tours was addressing Rau Antiques or we would never have gone in. I lost my wife, who wandered further in and higher up. It's like a museum where everything is for sale (or almost). The crystal is amazing as were the automatons. Just keep exploring; the staff was very welcoming... More

Have you ever been somewhere that is tucked away and so wonderful that you hope no one else finds it? This is one of mine. We've visited this antique store 4-5 times over the last 10 years, and it never gets old. Drift back past the heirloom jewelry and china in the front and into the back room with the... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
