We were fortunate to buy last minute tickets to see Ellis Marsalis. This venue is small and intimate and just what we were looking for to see some live jazz..... what a bonus to see a musical legend at that! There is seating downstairs and a balcony upstairs. Someone suggested that the acoustics upstairs are best however, we chose to... More

Not only was the jazz the best, young jazz musicians were featured; the youngest 15 years old.....the young jazz musicians were very professional and were able to keep up with the the old guys who have been around for years. Absolutely awesome music and a truly enjoyable evening.

We'd come to Frenchmen Street to find an alternative to the endless noise and debauchery of the French Quarter. We had no idea what we'd find, but when we came across a jazz bistro, we couldn't pass up the chance. The best part about having to wait ~30 minutes for a table was that I had the opportunity to stand... More

No trip to New Orleans is complete without enjoying the city's No. export: Jazz. Our friends took us to the Snug on a Friday night to hear the legendary Ellis Marsalis, father of Winton and Bradford and a jazz icon in his own right. At 80-something Ellis is going strong and was in fine form the night we were there.... More

The food and service was good. Unfortunately, there were no available seats for the jazz performance - shame!

The venue has 3 separate interconnecting sections - restaurant, bar and live band venue, which allows you to hear live bands, usually of a high quality, perform while you dine. There is an entrance fee of $20-25 to see the bands, so while you can't see them play, you can certainly hear them perform while eating for no charge. The... More

We didn't eat in the cafe, but rather got tickets for the jazz performance, which is held in a small theatre at the back of the venue. It was great. The venue is intimate, and the show was fantastic. You can check their calendar for who is performing and buy tickets in advance. I loved it, as did my sister... More

I've probably been here 10 times now for drinks and music. This was my first time to eat there. You can't beat the music. I've never had a night there that wasn't great. The drinks from the bar are always good as well. However, avoid eating there. When we went the place wasn't busy and there seemed to be plenty... More

We booked this show a couple of weeks ago anticipating a solid evening of jazz. I was here many years ago and had fond memories. I am afraid I was disappointed this time. Charmaine Neville was the main act and while she is charming she simply can't or doesn't sing. Her band carried most of the load and a good... More

My wife and I stopped here per recommendation and we're sorry to do so. The wait staff was slow and didn't show up to our table until 15 minutes of waiting. Then, we were completely ignored after ordering until it was time to pay. The place wasn't crowded, and the food wasn't stellar. Find something else.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
