The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.

Beautiful area. lots of trees and flowers. Also a wonderful fountain surrounded by colorful flowers. Only minor concern was being near a golf course and seeing a sign that basically tells you there is a risk of getting hit with golf balls and or golf carts.

After walking around the Garden District we got back onto the St Charles Streetcar and travelled to Audubon Park. It is a beautiful Oak lined Park with a 1.8 mile path around a lake, golf club and the entrance to Audubon Zoo.
We throughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend this extra stay on the Streetcar to see its beauty.

Make sure to spend lots of time in the Audobon Zoo. Lovely animals, and they all ast for you! There is a white alligator, and a trolly if you get tired of walking. Take the boat from the Aquarium dock, then ride back on the St Charles Streetcar.

First visit was in 1970 as a student at Tulane. This year we took my grandsons to the park to play after visiting Tulane and Loyola. Something for everyone. Used to run the park every day, now I meander.

We got the Charles Street streetcar form the French Quarter which is cheap and takes through the lovely garden district up to the Audubon Park. The park is large, you can play golf, there are running & cycling tracks, beautiful lakes with wildlife and nice flower gardens. You can also walk through this park and visit the Audubon Zoo which is a fantastic place to visit while you are in the area.

Fabulous walk around this park today, right up to the river and back, around 5 miles in all including an ‘off piste’ to the golf club cafe for refreshments. Amazing Spanish Oaks everywhere, and the walk alongside the Mississippi was amazing with wildlife including lizards, herons, huge butterflies and dragonflies the size of pigeons. Thought I saw an alligator but was told it was a piece of driftwood. Still not convinced. A great few hours, but take plenty of water, it was 32 degrees and there’s not a lot of shade!

Quiet walk through nature. Listened to the bird calls as we walked around the loop. Beautiful scenery and inviting grassy areas to take in.

A wonderful walkway path around the golf course. Shaded by grand old oaks, and bordered by magnificent houses, this is a great place to walk, jog or bicycle. Very relaxing and a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Many restaurants and drinks nearby in a college area quiet community.

We may have carry on luggage with us during the day of our visit. Are the lockers large enough to accommodate a small suitcase?

I would leave the luggage at the desk or with your Air BnB Host as the lockers are small and folks in New Orleans, whether Host or Desk Staff will surly help.

Are there beignets around there or food trucks? We aren't interested in Cafe Du Monde wait time!

Hi Mama Kaci! Beignets are on some Uptown restaurant menus and there are food trucks in Uptown. The location of the food trucks is TBD each day in New Orleans. Hope you enjoy your time here!

Of course they are open, it is a public park. Audubon Park is a city park located in the Uptown neighborhood. The park is approximately six miles west of the city center. It is bordered on one side by the Mississippi River and on the other by St. Charles Avenue, directly across from Tulane University and Loyola University. You can easily get there by either car or by taking the St Charles streetcar. Audubon Park houses the city zoo, a golf course and some of the prettiest live oak trees in the city.
