I have visited this museum, both before and after Katrina. They suffered thirty feet of flood water during Katrina, but, have recovered and, it's better than ever. I have visited a number of military museums, and, this is one of the best. Funded by the State of Louisiana, they have many people who have contributed family and personal artifacts to... More

The old museum, including a number of artifacts, was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. This new facility has recently opened. There are large areas for exhibits that tell the history of the National Guard in Louisiana. They have firearms, uniforms, battle flags, a recreated World War II barracks and more on display inside. There are vehicles and aircraft outside. While they... More

Stop in and see how the National Guard has impacted the people of New Orleans and Louisiana. The displays are very well done and show the resiliency of the Guard.

History stared you right in the face at Jackson Barracks a military museum and attraction rich in America's history. Modern and Old time weapons of war are displayed prouldy along the court yard and inside the museum. History of New Orleans fighting men and women whose spirits still resonate from walls built to protect the land mark during the civil... More

Staying in Ninth Ward

Neighbourhood Profile
Ninth Ward
People focus too much on the hardships so closely associated with this well known working class neighborhood when what’s really most remarkable about the tightknit community is its indefatigable spirit of rebirth and ability to stay true to its roots. Perhaps not an ideal destination for those visitors who tend to keep well within their comfort zones when traveling or those with bucket lists filled to the brim with top tourist attractions, the Ninth Ward is nonetheless there for those who are most keen to discover the places they encounter. But it’s not all about learning lessons when going to the Ninth Ward. With its “Living Museum” and “steamboat houses” and a long enduring dedication to preserving local culture, there’s more than enough to see and do during a daytime tour of the area.
