We ended up with a private tour with our guide Brittany. She took us around on the French Quarter History Tour. It was a great tour. She knew her facts and was able to add some good perspective and history to the tour. I would say that I know this area better than I did before hand and would be... More

We took the Cementery and Voodoo tour. I've been specializing in the topic for years (I am an anthropologist) and Ina Fandrich's knowledge was impressive. It was fun, also. A great tour! Highly recommend it! -unless you prefer the weird tales and tall lies..

I truly enjoyed our historic tour. The information was great and presented well. The odd, eccentric and horrific history of New Orleans will fascinate and startle all, no need for made up stories.

It was lovely to walk through this beautiful New Orleans neighborhood and view the stately homes surrounded by majestic trees and learn about their historical significance. Our tour guide, Tim, was extremely informative regarding the history of the homes, neighborhood and New Orleans in general. He was loud, clear, very amusing at times and was able to answer all of... The tour guide was excellent, and we learned a great deal. Lots of walking so be prepared for that. Note: the Tour description mentions visiting a Voodoo temple, you don't actually do that....at least we didn't. The company may want to modify the description. We did learn a lot of accurate facts relating to Voodoo and New Orleans so that... More

We took the Cemetery and Voodoo tour with David, and it was the best walking tour we've ever had, and the best experience of our 2.5 week trip through the South. Our guide Milton is a 4th generation native New Orlean of Creole descent. He is a retired electrician, and obviously has deep interest in the history of the city.... More

Cocktail and Scandal Tour, our Guide Dave gave us a terrific trip around the French Quarter, highly recommend this Tour company,! Loads of history, and ample opportunity to sample some historic cocktails in classic Gin joints and storied bars.

We did the 5pm French Quarter Walking tour with Denise Dijkstra. The tour departed from Café Beignet on Bourbon Street, which is a lovely courtyard café with live music. There were so many choices of company for this tour and we ended up choosing this company as they offer a seniors rate for my husband! The tour was very informative... More

We did an evening walking tour of the French Quarter and our guide was great. She was very energetic and had a little of good history and stories, and we covered a significant amount of territory. We'd been past several of the locations before and either not understood what they were or not noticed them. Definitely made the overall visit... More

Staying in Algiers

Neighbourhood Profile
Sitting pretty across the Mississippi River from the rambunctious French Quarter, the Crescent City’s second oldest neighborhood is as historic and as scenic as any – just a lot less showy about it. With its numerous 19th and early 20th century homes and plentiful parks and riverside green space for cycling and walking, subdued and low key Algiers yields the best views of New Orleans and offers a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle in other parts of town. Most of the area’s activity, for visitors anyway, takes place at Algiers Point where the famous Canal Street / Algiers Ferry has been the main attraction since 1827 and is still giving folks one of the best rides in town at very affordable rates. Restaurants, bars and music venues here all but guarantee the utmost of authentic experiences sans any hype or high prices.
