If you're coming to the Black Hills, certainly you don't want to miss the viewing of the historic Mount Rushmore, but only a short drive beyond, Custer State Park offers tremendous diversity and relaxation. Hiking to mountain peaks or along trails that intertwine with creeks, fishing, camping, and lodge facilities are just some of the offerings. Spectacular views from the... More

You have to go earlier in the morning or early evening to see the bison close to the road, we for some reason could not get the timing right and didn't see any up close at all

It is wonderful to see all the Buffalo free roaming in the park (saw a pack of over 200)and saw 4-5 Wild Turkeys near the road! Many have commented on the amenities I wanted to point out the Wild life:)

We had the opportunity for a quick trip to Custer State Park and the annual Buffalo Roundup. What a great place! Over 2 1/2 days we were able to check out Wildlife Loop Rd., Needles Highway, and Iron Mountain Rd. Each part offered something unique and sights that I will never forget. I expect that visiting in late fall allowed... More

We stayed in Custer for five nights Custer is on the edge of the Park, there is so much to see and do in this wonderful area. We drove all the roads in the park, which is a must, the scenery and wildlife are fantastic. The whole park is well maintained. This is a place to relax and take your... More

Bison herds are tracked by the park rangers and easily found. It got to the point where we got "tired" of shooting them (via camera) and we started looking for other wildlife. Just be prepared not to be in a hurry in case you're caught in a bison jam!

We knew we had to visit Custer! It is a must-see if you are in the area. We stayed two nights and could have stayed a week. Ask park rangers about the best wildlife viewing locations. We were in the middle of a huge herd of bison (on Wildlife Loop Rd) for over 30 minutes. Amazing!

This is the third or fourth trip to Custer State Park, I think this might have been the most wildlife we've seen yet! Always beautiful here!

We visited this park twice. We saw bizons, pronghorns and many other animals. We were lucky to see that cowboys and girls drove a heard of bizons to another part of the park. That was absolutely the highlite of the day. When we drove back to Custer it was getting later (17.00) At that time you have to be very... More
