What a beautiful little lake. It was perfect for me, a first time kayaker. The water was clear and nary a ripple. My sister gave me a quick tutorial on kayaking and then we spend a couple hours of peaceful bliss. while my brother-in-law caught trout from shore Perfect afternoon!!

You are in the Black Hills, enjoy and see everything. This is another example of the natural beauty.

Through the Custer Park activities, we saw that Center Lake had fishing (9:30AM-11:30AM) and canoeing (1-3PM) facilitated by park staff. It was fantastic to have someone else bring the bait, poles, and equipment at no additional charge. While Center Lake wasn't the most picturesque of Custer State Park's lakes, it was lovely and we enjoyed the opportunity to fish and... More

We loved the lake, beautiful setting but eating a picnic lunch while chasing off biting flies wasn't easy. Also, if you are anywhere near the beach it is quite loud. In fairness, it was a scorching hot day and it was the height of the tourist season but not very peaceful. Side note: there were no biting flies at Sylvan... More

We loved this spot! It was a nice place for us to come and chill out for a while in the heat. The kids were able to swim in the crystal clear water and play in the cool sand on the beach, and the adults could sit nearby at a picnic table and watch/read/enjoy. Smallish beach, but it wasn't crowded.... More

We have stopped in twice now. There is a beach where you can chill, and swim with two new nice shelters to rest under. There are only pit toilets. You can try out a canoe for a short time on tuesdays from 1 to 3 pm. We did that, and it was a fun quick jaunt around the lake.

This was by far one of our favorite spots in Custer State Park! It is a relatively small lake, but it was extremely clear and beautiful! We did some hiking around the lake and fishing. We caught a few small trout, but we did not keep them. Our highlight was fishing near the dam then walking back behind the dam... More

Most of the campgrounds in Custer State Park seemed to be oriented mainly for RV's and are too open and unshaded for my taste but the Center Lake campground has lots of tall pines and shade and a pretty little lake. The showers were a nice bonus!

Great fishing area, lots of shade! We caught some Pike, which we had never fished for before, and of course released back into the lake!

This lake is beautiful, surrounded on almost all sides by steep hills covered in pine forest. Custer State Park allows free canoe and kayak "rentals" certain days of the week for a couple of hours in the afternoon. We did that and the kids really enjoyed it. Then they swam at the swim beach, which seemed fairly free of mud... More
