The pier is close to everything with just the right amount of movement of the ocean, easy access, and enough swimming room. It is sometimes hard to find the right conditions for fun swimming on this island. The water is either rocky, dangerous or so...More

In Kailua/Kona on the big island of Hawaii the Kailua pier is where you access boat trips, be it fishing, tours or cruise boats. It's near the center of town, but the towns not that big and it's easy to find near the Kamehameha hotel.

Most of the boat tours (Body Glove, etc) launch from this pier. Next to it is a lovely sandy beach that has a gradual slope, good for children or just getting your feet wet... or go out further and snorkel to see several varieties of...More

The small sandy beach is nice. It's cool to see all the boats coming and going right around sunset. The sunsets from here are amazing.

This pier brings back memories. Going out on a military boat to Honolulu. Going on some of the cruise ships, Out to sea to scatter the remains of a friend who lost his life in an accident... the list goes on.

I wasn't interested in all the land activities here, but the open water swim course is great. There are buoys marking the 1.2 mile round trip, and the boats (generally) stay away from there. Great opportunity to swim in crystal clear water with fish and...More
