I am going to give you some excellent tips to make this beach excursion possible and budget friendly. #1 rent car from the Marriott courtyard across the street from the port. Quick walk. Do not rent car from the airport it's too far from the port. Book car rental early however we were able to get same day car rental... More

great , best, beach for swimming . lovely sand, medium surf action. surf action stirs up too much silt to be able to see much, and not much coral in this location, so other than sea turtles grazing on the green 'grass' on the lava rocks, not worth thinking of it as a snorkeling beach. locals come on weekends, bring... So last year, when we went in April, the beach itself was practically nonexistent due to a recent swell. We were there with our kids this time and we all had a blast!! The waves were perfect for body surfing and boogie boarding. This is truly my favorite beach in Hawaii. We call it the Jumpy Wave Beach, because the... More

We kept finding ourselves back at this beach. The water can be a bit rough for swimmers but it's cool to watch the surfers and body surfers. The water is pristine! When the humpback whales are migrating, this is a great location to watch. The beach has lava rock and you have to negotiate them to get there but it's... More

Stupendous little beach, good for sun, bodysurfing, some snorkeling. Silky white sand, crystal blue water. Can feel a little crowded.

This beach is gorgeous! It's not huge but we didn't find it crowded. The sand is the softest I've ever walked on the sea is a beautiful turquoise blue. The snorkelling was great and easy, we could stand with our masks in the water if we wanted to. There are some rocks and coral not far off the beach (you... More

There is limited parking but you can park along the side of the road and a walk down some lava rock to get to the sandy beach. Beautiful turquoise water. Waves can come in so not very good for little ones. There is snorkelling near the rocks(I saw a turtle there). Lots of boogie boarders. They sell shave ice there... More

This is a rare white sand beach on the big island and a very nice one at that. It isn't very big and it is popular, so parking is in high demand. About a mile past the airport in the national park. There are full change rooms and washrooms which are nice and there was a food truck too with... More

Used to be accessible only by 4WD, no open to the public with full facilities but much bigger crowds. Beautiful water, but shorebreak can be punishing when big swells hit.

So good we went there twice! Pros: Paved parking, changing rooms, free shower and sometimes a food truck is there. Great sandy beach, good surf and spots of Marine life (Saw a large mama seal, turtles and even a goat but not a lot of fish) Cons: Not perfect sandy beach (there are some lava rocks - some movable) so...
