Stonington gallery is situated a few minutes walk from Pioneer Square - an area in itself worth spending some time in. We went to the gallery to see an exhibit of a local weaver, but found a wealth of local art, both on the walls and in the stands. The excellent selection ranges from small to large prints , glass,... It is a classy place. They know how to display art, but more importantly You get a sense of how artists from different backgrounds approach Northwest Coast Art style. Even if you are not interested in it, it is worth to observe and then you will see what it is all about - shapes inside shapes, structure, specific colors, you... More

This is an interesting art gallery specializing in Native style art. Not all artists are registered tribe members but those who are not still have serious skills and show great respect in their creations. Stonington, in Pioneer Square, in my opinion has the best collection of NW Native American art by contemporary artists for sale in Seattle -- from bentwood boxes to totem polls, carved wood masks and jewelry, sculptures, textiles, paintings & works on paper. They are very knowledgeable and influential with some top artists represented.

Yeah, the prices are steep, but they let you do layaway. i discovered Thomas Stream and the Stonington Gallery via their display at the Sea-Tac airport four years ago; Stream is an artist of incredible, unique ability and I think he's the best artist represented by the gallery. Since the other works are of equally impeccable artistry, that's the highest... More
