Not Authentic

You won't find an authentic ulu here. It is exactly what it says it is, a factory. These ulus are made for the tourist trade.

Don't waste your money on these mass-manufactured tourist traps when you could get the real thing at Alaska Native Heritage Center or the gift shop at Alaska Native Medical Center!

Wedged in the valley between downtown Anchorage and Government Hill, lies the museum, manufacturing plant and shop for the Alaskan Ulu Factory. You can buy these at many locations in Anchorage for same or slightly higher prices. I bought seconds with hardly noticeable defects at significant savings. A fun side trip.

If you want to take back an Ulu (in your checked bags) this is the place to make your purchase. The knives are made on site by local artisans. The are reasonably priced and best of all they are made in Alaska!

They make the Ulu's right there and when the production is happening, you can watch the craftsmen through a large glass window. You would think that real Alaska made products would be far more expensive than the cheap products from other countries but no. The prices are very close and the quality can't be compared. If you want to buy an ULU might as well get it from the source. There's not much to see as far as watching the ULU being made, it is a store that sells ULU's and other tourist stuff

The factory is next to the Comfort in and a reasonable walk from downtown Anchorage. It is full of Alaskana gifts but the best part is watching people work on making ulus.

Cool place. I got a Ulu knife, Alaska slippers and reindeer jerky. They have a lot of cool and unique items. This is a must stop on your visit to Alaska.

If you go to Anchorage, you must visit the Ulu Factory. An Ulu is a tool that can be used for anything from kitchen cutting to skinning a seal. Today, most people just use it for cooking, but it really has a myriad of uses. The authentic and original ulu is made and sold at The Ulu Factory, which is... More
