A beautiful capitol building. Very interesting to learn the building was designed by the same architect as the Iowa State Capitol, and it shows in some areas. I am just starting a goal of visiting as many state capitol buildings as I can. The building is better integrated into the city than Iowa's State Capitol, but not as well integrated... More

A beautiful capitol building inside and out. The tour was good but way too short, there's so much history and great beauty that we needed more time to really see everything and take in the history, but the tour guide went about it all too fast and didn't give enough time to really enjoy the building. So we will do... More

Took our 8 and 10 year old with us. They were just old enough although the 10yr old was much more knowledgeable of the legislation. Great history of the state, beautiful building , paintings and statues.

I live 2 blocks from here and pass it everyday and I sometimes just stand and appreciate the ornate design and execution. I also look to the flag pole to see if we lost anyone to combat.

One of our hobbies is doing state capitol tours when ever we can. This tour was great and we were not disappointed and the building and grounds are beautiful

We took the tour so we had a chance to see the upper floors. The tour guide was very good and friendly. Well worth the time if you're in Springfield. Tour was free.

We were too early for the tour so decided just to look around (first floor only). Worth a stroll, beautiful building.

As a former State of Illinois representative, I would recommend that you allow about two (2) hours for your tour of the Illinois State Capital building. Interesting things in the Capital Building built and completed in 1886 in the design of a Latin cross. The Capital is open to visitors from 9.00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Interesting... This capitol building is simply spectacular! The variety of wood, stone, marble and crystal is staggering. The tour is free and the guide we had was fun, humorous and thorough. She answered any questions we had and let us gawk and take all the pictures we wanted. A wonderful experience!
