The Illinois State Capitol building is an attractive imposing building. Unfortunately, the legislators do not live up to their positions. Go for a visit to see where governing is supposed to take place.

Anyone visiting Springfield must visit the beautiful state Capitol. Built around 1888, this building could never be replicated in today's world. The marble and granite, and the stained glass in the dome are a modern marvel.

Great place to visit, if you have never been! We were there for work to speak to our state legislators and you couldn't help but take a moment and take in the art and architecture.

Beautiful building and a lot of history behind it. We were able to go to just about every room in the capitol since all of our state reps were missing, like usual. Definitely visit the basement to see the foundation.

Very cool state capitol building. We took the (free) guided tour and our guide did a great job showing us the inner workings of the capitol. The architecture was extremely impressive. A must-see!

We went for the 4:00 tour on a day when the House and Senate were in session. We were able to see the House chambers, but the Senate chambers were closed to observers. Our guide was knowledgeable and kept us moving. There are some really lovely parts of the Capitol. The statues, the rotunda, the artwork, the architecture, the hall... More

Beautiful place to look at but nothing behind the scenes. On the advice of a friend, don't try to go to any other floor for a self-guided tour because you will get in trouble! Take the official tour only.

It is the most beautiful of the 23 different state capitals that I have visited. The building looks huge but run down from the outside. Once you go inside you are amazed with the shining floors and clean restrooms and beautiful chandelier. The hallways and rooms are huge with decorated walls and ceilings. It is a must see if you... The Illinois state Capitol building is incredible. It's been beautifully restored. Tours are available from the Secretary of State's office on the first floor. The dome is really a sight to see. The House is closest to the one in Washington D.C. The reliefs and paintings are a respectful nod to Illinois history.
