Lovely preserved home of the poet. A nice step back in time. It is around the corner and a short distance from the Dana Thomas /Frank Lloyd Wright designed home, so they are do-able together in a morning or afternoon.

If you are in Springfield and a Vachel Lindsay fan, this is for you. Hours are limited so be sure to check before you come. I'm not a fan so this is in the no-big-deal bucket for me. To each is own.

OK, I'll admit it. I didn't know who Vachel Lindsay was until I read his biography before we visited his home at 603 South 5th Street in Springfield, next to the Illinois Governor's mansion. In fact, I didn't even know if Lindsay was a he or a she. It only proves you never are too old to get educated. We... More

This home has barely changed since Vachel Lindsay lived there, so the ambiance is real. One can picture him in every room. The guides are very informative; often there are performances in the home. They are wonderful!

I enjoyed this tour more than my husband. The house was just a normal house, but it was interesting to learn about Vachel Lindsay as well as his father who was a physician with an office in the house where he was one of very few doctors who treated African Americans or other poor people of the time. Vachel was... More

Vachel Lindsay's house is also the same house that Abraham Lincoln's sister lived in first. Well preserved. I saw a top hat sitting on the night stand next the Mr. Lindsay's bed. You could tell that this hat was very old and had Mr. Lindsay's name on the inside. Our guide explained how the Lindsay's built an addition to the... More

Learned a lot about Vachel Lindsay's career and family. Home is well taken care of; lots of nice touches designed by his mother and preserved for today's visitors. Tour guide was friendly and informative.

This home was so interesting not only in itself but the family who owned it. It's immaculately kept up!! The guide, Jennie, was a brilliant woman who took a personal interest in making sure all our questions were answered and then some!

Just down the street from the Governor's mansion and the Frank Lloyd Wright house. We're from Spokane, Wa. where Vachel spent some time living in our historical hotel and met his wife. So we HAD to check this out

Well maintained residence of the poet, novelist, and writer of the first book about film. The owner before Lindsay was Mary Todd's sister, so the house also has a Lincoln connection. It takes no more than a half-hour to tour.
