I visited the great western depot, site where Lincoln spoke before departing Springfield. The Depot is a small self guided tour and the building is cared for by a law firm in the building. If you are a Lincoln fan this is a must see.

Nice collection of information, and standing next to the tracks gave me a bit of a chill imagining the scene. Our second-favorite of the Lincoln sites after the Lincoln Home (but the Museum was the most informative).

Downtown Springfield has many Lincoln attractions, and this old train station is one of them. It is wonderful that historical places which Mr. Lincoln frequented such as this depot, are still standing.

The depot was closed when we arrived so we didn't get to go inside but it was still worth a visit. The outside is well maintained with brochures and informational signs. This is where Lincoln gave his farewell speech to Springfield when he left to...More

If you enjoy history this was a very good stop. You can view the depot in less than an hour. Watch the video which was very informative. To think Lincoln left this depot as President elect and ultimately returned as our assassinated 16th President. How sad.

Wanted to go inside but was closed for the weekend. The building and grounds are in great shape and a nice place to walk around with the family.

This is definitely worth the visit, just for its place in history. There is a great brochure and video that have Lincoln's farewell speech. There is also a really neat example of a telegraph you can try, which the kids really enjoyed. There are some...More

I was able to see the reenactment of Lincoln's farewell addrss at the old depot. What a treat! The downstairs is nicely renovated and the upstairs is a well-designed law office. Worth a visit, for sure.

This old Norfolk & Western depot was the location for Abraham Lincoln's farewell address as he departed for the White House. A law firm occupies part of the building. The inside waiting room is well-preserved. There are photos and plaques explaining its history. Freight trains...More
