Loved it!

Walked the entire canal along the river as well. Great views. Wanted to do the canal boat ride which on the website said they were open but they were not. that was a bummer

This is a nice urban canal/river walk that is well-maintained and easy to walk. Many fine views of waterfowl during the winter. This is just the place for a quiet stroll and people watching and watching the boats in the river.

They've cleaned this up a good bit since I was a kid in Richmond. Used to be rough downtown in the 80's, now it's nice to go for a ride or walk down along the canal.

The people there are very friendly and the hotels nearby are very comfortable too. The shopping mall is called Canal Walk shopping mall and is so huge that my mum and I got lost many times.

I did this a number of times during my stay in Richmond. It's a cute place to take a walk. Better then a busy sidewalk through downtown.

This drew my attention as soon as I hit town...definitely worth a look. I am sure you could self guide along the pathways but the segway trip took this area in and shared stories along the way.

We took some friends who were visiting from out of the country downtown and walked all over. Canal Walk is easy and interesting if you know some of the history behind it.

Not much noise and no traffic so going for a walk or run is enjoyable for the most part. If you're not familiar with the area, signage is somewhat lacking to understand how to go further north after the end of the mostly flat (a few stairs appear periodically) southern section (climb the old wood stairs, turn right to cross... The canal walk stretches for about a mile along the waterfront and its numerous historic buildings. The lower end goes along an old train trestle and underneath a triple main-line railroad crossing, which has the distinction of being the only one still in operation in the entire world. Just past this is where canal boat tours are available, and then... More

Truly loved the canal walk. Beautiful scenery and easy walking terrain. I was there in early November and it wasn't crowded or cold at all.
