What a treasure! This old theater truly takes you back in time! We were there in October, 2016 and had the opportunity to see a silent film (Phantom of the Opera) while someone played the original Wurlitzer Organ. It was an experience we will not forget! Since this is an old theater, the seats are not the most comfortable and... More

Most of the appeal of this theater is its low price and grandeur. The space inside is mind-blowingly big & ornate -- almost cathederal-like. The only con of this place is the seats. They're quite lumpy & while rustic, the upholstery has long given up the ghost. Not the comfiest experience, but very visually pleasing.

Though the Byrd recently raised their prices to $4 a ticket, hopefully that will give them the funding for some much-needed renovations, like the long-awaited new seats! Watching a movie at the Byrd is like taking a trip to the past. No visit to Richmond is complete with checking out the fabulous chandelier! The only reason I didn't give 5... More

We went to see a movie at this gorgeous theater. Prior to the movie a old organ popped up and a gentleman played for 10-15 minutes. Apparently this happens most Saturday evenings. The theater seats need to be refurbished, but the place is amazing.

We had a great experience going to the Byrd Theatre over Christmas to see It's a Wonderful Life. The organ and Bob were wonderful but .. the place is extremely dirty. We all understand they are raising money to renovate the theatre but there is no reason for it to be that dirty. It looked like they had cleaned it... More

The Byrd is an old, once magnificent, movie theater in Richmond Virginia, in the Carytown neighborhood. (Lots of good, inexpensive restaurants.) The good news is that they show modern second-run films (as soon as they leave the megaplexes), Saturday kiddie matinees, and old classic movies. The better news is, admission is only a $1.99, or $5 for big screen classics... More

Fun place for a 2nd run movie or old classic. Atmosphere is old school, beautiful architecture. Go when they play the Wurlitzer organ - another classic.

I have a thing for old movie palaces and my wife indulges me. While staying in Richmond on vacation, we went to the Byrd Theater on a Monday night and it was exactly as billed. It is beautiful in its faded glory and wonderfully eccentric in its dilapidated seats. We really enjoyed it - it was a romantic change from... More

The Poe Film Festival was being held at the Byrd Theater September 23rd and 24th which was sponsored by The Poe Museum of Richmond. I am so glad they chose this venue to showcase the Poe films starring Vincent Price among other Poe films made by new and up and coming film makers. Victoria Price, the daughter of horror icon... Movies aren't the newest but for $2 it's a great deal. Popcorn at most is $5 and same for drink. Seats are not in good shape but hey it's $2!!!
