A visit to the Memorial is surely not a fun activity, but rather an educational one. It is essential to understand how the recent history of Romania has shaped the present and more importantly, it is essential that we all know what happend in the communist era and try our best never to let such things happen again. Coming here... More

The feelings you experience there are unique. Knowing that the elite people of Romania was imprisoned, tortured and killed on communism period, makes you sad, but in the same time it gives you hope that there are people ready to fight for freedom, ideas and goals. The "Memorial" was a prison that time, but now it's a museum. Almost every... More

This is a must see, both for building itself and for the story behind it. The place is very organised despite the low ticket price.

The original prison building was used to display both visual displays and historical records of this Communistic Period and each opf the prisoners was recognized and their story told. It was emotionally moving especially to read of the tortures used and the school children who were interrogated. The memorial statue in the courtyard truly summarized the horror and sadness of the... I was here with my wife and we spent a couple of hours. It's said to find out how comunism destroyed the lifes of so many people. We were really said for some time after the visit, learning all those things. A nice place to visit if you want to know more about people from Maramureș (and more) that suffered... More

I was amazed by this museum! Standing on the ground of so much history... It used to be communist jail from the late 40's to mid 50's, where many of the academics, actors, students, professors and notable writers were imprisoned, entire families...Many of these people ended their lives here. It is so sad walking around the place, entering the cells... More

Well documented museum in an impressive communist prison. There are a lot of rooms so if you really look to visit all the museum book a lot of time of your schedule:) We really enjoyed the visit!
