pretty meandering little river

nice river to walk along although mainly accessible from the River road-shallow most of the way but a few spots kids jump into with a tree rope.

Have been to this area of Vermont many times and am always excited to return. The river, the country roads to leisurely drive (River Road of course!) the many places to stop and explore, the covered bridges. I hate to have to go home!

The Ottaquechee which seems to border the road to Woodstock feels like it is waking up from the winter. Vast stretches of white white country snow and ice break into a powerful roar of water - so clean and pure - you feel you see every rock and crevasse in the riverbed- It is a profound reminder of the sheer... We drove over this bridge at least three times, just a lovely, very long bridge. Feels like a step back in time.

Even in winter. We came in a quick warm spell after Christmas. With evening rain the river flow was strong. Catch the covered bridges at Taftsville and Woodstock.

This is a beautiful river. If you drive around and look at the covered bridges you'll see this river from different vantage points. There's also so many awesome photo opportunities to be had. Enjoy!

The Taftsville covered bridge is a great example of its type with the internal structure still mostly original (even after partly being destroyed by Irene). Well worth a stop as its close to route 4 on your way to Killington via Woodstock. Beautiful in all seasons.

Take the Old River road from Woodstock, it runs immediately by the Billings farm, and enjoy a very pleasant drive along the river shaded by trees. Then you come to this great covered bridge with a weir running down just in front. It is a good example of a covered bridge, and you can drive across from both sides and... More

Woodstock is such a quaint town and it wouldn't be complete without a drive thru this bridge. We drove thru and then pulled over to take some pictures of both the bridge and the Ottaquechee River that runs underneath of it. Absolutely beautiful! Worth the stop!
