I have never walked around a cemetery before but the tour I took was great. I was not scary or creepy.

Oakland Cemetery is a beautiful park as well as cemetery. Oldest public park and cemetery in the city, with tons of history. Bobby Jones and Margaret Mitchell attract the most visitors. Oddly pleasant place, despite being where 70,000 people are buried. Beautiful funerary art throughout the cemetery, many with great stories. Download the very good smartphone app for an interactive... More

Visited this lovely and peaceful cemetery on a recent visit to Atlanta and really enjoyed it. The cemetery can be reached on foot (30min walk from downtown) or by Marta train (station located just 5 min from the cemetery). Beautiful grave stones, touching monuments, some interesting reading scattered around the Jewish quarter and near “Slave Square/ African American” quarter and... More

A must see for locals and tourists alike. Seek out the Civil War Dead. Read the Tomb stones, it will awaken you.

I "rolled through" the cemetery as part of a segway tour. I was very impressed by the abundance of georgeous monuments and stonework. The cemetery seems like something straight out of a movie (and indeed, my guide told me that they often do shoot movies here). You should definitely make time to stroll through this beautiful spot. It's eerie and... More

We ate across the street at Ria's Bluebird Cafe and decided to poke our heads in the cemetery. It is very well tended. Check out the brick gutters and Margaret Mitchell's grave.

Have a meal at Six Feet Under then stroll amongst the tombstones at Oakland Cemetery. The markers and monuments are not only fabulous, but historically interesting as well. Be sure to note the African-American section on the northeast side of the property. Stop by the museum/gift shop for a chat with the volunteer who is a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge... More

There are so many reasons to visit here. The setting is beautiful for a stroll. The architecture of the crypts and other monuments is outstanding. The history of the location is so rich and the names you see bring up Atlanta and Georgia figures over and over. I would take a tour next time to get the history but just... More

I had a 15k race and passed through the area, what a beautiful clean place to be laid to rest. Beatiful markers, tombs and grounds.

My boyfriend showed me this place several years ago. I simply cant stay away. We are lucky to live just outside of Atlanta and can go on a day off. Ive bought several books from the bookstore/welcome center/(old morgue(?) The Victorian garden environment creates such a peaceful environment. A strong reminder that death does not discriminate. The symbols on the... More
