I visited the museum with my 78 year old dad. We had a very interesting and enjoyable day trip, learning history and comparing it to how we Army medics do things now. This AC controlled facility has several floors and offers an elevator for those needing it. You can also tour with or without a tour guide. We spent about... More

Not only for history buffs, many exhibits are hands on and good for kids/adults alike. The layout sends you back and forth, slightly confusing. For $9.50, you are getting a great deal. We got a coupon for free admission from the Frederick visitor center before visiting as well. The display models are well done. The store is well stocked with... More

So much information contained here, and some of it changed my way of thinking regarding Civil War doctoring. I had no idea that there were about 100 medical schools in the United States at the time--one in my Indiana home town!--and that most doctors were pretty well trained, for the time. I learned that both ether and chloroform were in... More

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but it is fascinating! There were so many quirky and interesting facts that we learned. One of the members in our group was a Pharmacist and he even found many of the items new to him. So many of the things we saw (like the animals) in the Civil War, you... More

If you are into history, especially Civil War, then you must go here. It's a little museum but very facts and history of Civil War focused on the medicine side. Shows how advanced (for its time) medicine was, and how many innovative inventions or ways of doing medicine were invented at the time. Such as the start of Ambulance and... More

The teenagers actually liked it!! Even our 8 yo did too! Takes about an hour. Fun and interesting topic that you haven't seen before. Bob gives a great 5 minute talk at the beginning to set the tone. The visitors center has bogo coupons.

This is a great museum for Civil War buffs, those interested in medicine or to teach kids about history. Displays are done in a way that you are not overloaded with too much to read or too simplistic. They show clearly how things were during the war and allow you to take it in as an observer. You leave feeling... More

This museum is interesting to all ages. Adults and children alike will learn what medicine was like during the time of the Civil War.Teaches you how soldiers were treated on the battlefield and in make shift hospitals all over cities near where battles were fought. I would highly recommend this for children.
