This is a part of the Natchez National Historic Park, and it no longer looks like the many photos on the Internet. The whitewashed columns have been painted to look like marble stucco. Not a big deal. The tour of the mansion is not all that interesting. We would not go back.

This is well worth the visit. The grounds are massive. The Estate is well kept and the park service employees very knowledgeable. Do the main house tour. Everything is basically like it was when it was built (with a few modern updates like air and electricity). The times the house was sold was with all the original furnishings so it's... More

Melrose is the only antebellum mansion in Natchez that is operated by the National Park Service. We were told that it was selected by the NPS from among all of the other antebellum mansions in Natchez because it had full documentation of every facet of its history, it still contains virtually all of its original out-buildings (slave quarters, summer kitchen,... Unfortunately we didn't arrive here until after the cut off for the inside tours. However, we were able to wonder on the grounds and saw alot of interesting things. The gardens were well maintained and beautiful. It is run by the National Parks and everyone was very helpful.

We enjoyed the group tour of the home and also touring the other buildings on our own. The park ranger who gave our tour was not only knowledgeable, but extremely entertaining. The exhibit in the slave quarters is fascinating. Don't miss it.

Great place to visit. Loved the story too. The price is so reasonable. Most see and do in Natchez, Ms! So worth the visit. Good place for restrooms. This owner really knew what she was doing ask about the women that saved even the walpaper.

Of all the fine southern mansions that we toured in Natchez, this one really was the most authentic and stunning!!! It had the most well preserved antiques, art and furniture that actually belonged to the families that lived there. The home is in pristine condition considering the age and is just so interesting with secret walkways and history!! It also... More

The site is a nice example of this architecture. The rangers are knowledgeable about the site and willing to share their knowledge. It is a nice place to visit and well kept.

The tour guide, Barney, has been noted in other reviews for his animated delivery; if you get him as your guide you are in for a treat. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he made the tour fun. Unlike many other antebellum homes, Melrose allows photography inside. The tour offer not only a history lesson but a study of the effect history has... More
