Recognized as an architectural masterpiece among Catholic churches in the south, it is the spiritual home of a vibrant St. Mary Catholic community today. The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez.

The St. Mary congregation takes pride in the basilica's colorful and prayerful setting, and welcomes visitors from near and distant places. The city of Natchez, on the Mississippi River and the birthplace of Mississippi, is a tourist destination because of its historic ante-bellum homes. St. Mary Basilica, also ante-bellum, is the city's central landmark.

Not only a beautiful place to visit but a great place to celebrate Mass. Two services, one at 5 PM on Saturday and one at 10 AM on Sunday, so avoid those times out of respect for the faithful.

If in Natchez, take a few minutes to silently enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of St Mary's. The gorgeous ceiling alone is worth the stop.

The size and beauty of the Basilica nearly take your breath away as you enter. Be sure to take the time to walk the landscaped grounds, Bishops garden area and tribute to veterans. The live oak trees are spectacular.

We were invited to walk through right before mass. Beautiful place and people were very friendly. A lady asked us to sit with her and she explained the statues and the stained glass windows. I would have loved to stay for service I'm sure it was wonderful.

Beautiful Church!!! It has a very nice prayer garden in the back as well. This church is located next to a serene memorial park for confederate soldiers and the Armed Forces. This area is a must-see!!!

St. Mary's is a breathtaking church. Beautiful inside with stained glass windows and painted ceiling. One of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited. If you like visiting historical churches, don't miss this one!

St. Mary Basilica was serenely beautiful and breath taking. Being brought up in a Catholic family this cathedral just reminded me of a true sense of being in God's house. It was a humbling experience. I even took the time to pray and light candles for my loved ones who are now in heaven.

So glad we made the effort to go here. It was so beautiful and quite a tribute to the church family for what was constructed.
