The best part is the story of how Baron Rothschild helped to make the wine industry successful in Israel. The tour is short with most areas being off limits. Of course, there is the tasting.

I was trying to find a special wine of 2009 and when I asked for it I was told that is was sold out. The owner, a charming gentleman, must have seen my disappointment, because suddenly he came with the desired bottle of 2009, telling me that now in his "safe" he has left only 5 instead of 6 bottles.... The visit includes an interesting tour off the winery's 120 years old wine cellars, as well as tasting Carmel's large selection of wines.

Well worth booking a trip around the winery and some wine tasting. Leaving there a little merry a walk around the town with some strong coffee is what is needed!

This is the mother of all Israeli wineries, the origin of today's modern operations. Established by the French branch of the Rothschild family in the mid 1800's to produce primarily ceremonial wines, you'll discover an amazing selection of French style wines that rival the best of France. However, more exciting is to find that bottle that for you expresses Israel:... More

We did tasting at the winery. The woman who did the tasting could not have made us feel more unwelcome. She was not interested in answering any of our questions about the winery or the wines. She stared us coldly while we drank the wine. The wine was completely unremarkable - very mediocre. Save your shekels and go elsewhere!

We were staying up the block. The wonderful odor of the skins lured us to the tasting room, though we were planning to go in anyway. Tasted 6 or 7 wines. When he opened a spoiles bottle he opened a new one. No charge for the tasting. No pressure to buy. Great explanations

Carmel is the oldest windery in Israel. Wonderful winery and the Center for Wine Culture where you will taste the wonderful wines. The town Zichron, Yaakov has many wonderful shops, restaurants and coffee shops.

The tour combined the history of Zichron Yaakov and wine making in Israel. Our guide had many interesting facts. It was an enjoyable activity for teens and adults. Our guide was very considerate in accommodating our special needs. Highly recommended!
