Ho Hum...another gorgeous beach in Maui. Sand like sugar, free, uncrowded, lifeguards...but very little shade and on a sunny day it is smokin' hot on that sand. Come early or bring some kind of shelter and your sunscreen. I did not see change houses or...More

This was one of my family's favourite beaches on the island. It is so BIG. The sand is so soft, and the views dreamy. We went to this beach a few years ago as well, and both visits the surf has been so high and...More

The wife wanted a sunset on the beach. Reviews led us to Makena and a place referred to (online - not sure if locals call it this) as the "Secret Cove." Make sure to go past the State Park signs, and park about a mile...More

Nice beach, not too busy if you go before lunch. Waves were too big that day to swim. Lifeguards there.

Big Makena is a large, unspoiled beach. No chairs, no services, just pure beach, so carry in all you need. Get there early and do a walk before the crowds (lots of kids) show up, unless you're into that.

This is a lava rock beach, very pretty but can be challenging to walk on the path at times. Very pretty shoreline, when we were visiting it was very windy, sand was blowing all over. Drive to the end of the road and park in...More

The beach was nearby our accommodations on the island of Maui. We decided to wander over to watch the sunset. There is a decent size lot and plenty of parking on the grass on the roadway leading to the beach. The beach is a short...More

Certainly worth the drive to this lovely beach. Do stop at the Keawala'i Congregational Church. The church was built in 1832 and is very presentative of construction of that period of time. The Church has regular services.

One of the most beautiful beaches on Maui! It’s a very large beach. The waves can be very big here so you need to be careful. There are 2 lifeguards on the beach.

Caveat: I judge beaches based primarily on the water (i.e. access, fun, danger, etc.). By that measure Makena Beach is scary and dangerous for me - an avid surfer and bodysurfer - and especially for my kids. The waves are larger than they are than...More

Sorry for my late response, but I didn't see this until now. Makena Beach is a nice spot but there are several spots more appropriate for a wedding. My favorite would be Secret Beach, which is just a bit south of Makena... More
